Workshop Title: Demystifying OCD

Workshop Presenter: Lucy Grantz, LMFT

Workshop Description: This training is designed to demystify Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for clinicians and to help identify OCD in clients when recurring struggles seem elusive and hard to treat. Once known as the “Doubting Disease”, OCD can present similarly to trauma, but common trauma approaches generally only work in the short-term. Most masters level programs don’t delve into the specifics around OCD, making it difficult for therapists to identify and treat effectively.

Workshop Objectives: Participants in this 2 hour training will: Learn about lesser-known, purely mental types of OCD (sometimes known as “Pure-O”). Increase understanding of the mechanism of OCD. Learn why Exposure and Response Prevention is so effective with OCD, when other approaches often are not. Learn an overview of how approach working with clients with OCD without feeding it unknowingly.

Presenter Bio: Lucy Grantz is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been treating OCD since 2017. Lucy obtained her masters in Art Therapy from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1999 and her certificate in marriage and family therapy from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis in 2010. She was trained in how to treat OCD and related disorders from the Behavioral Therapy Training Institute in 2018. Lucy works with tweens, teens and adults and their family members as needed for OCD therapy at Lyn Lake Psychotherapy and Wellness.
