Workshop Title: In-Home Family Therapy: The Fun Stuff
Workshop Description: In-Home Family Therapy can be one of the toughest jobs out there, but one of the most rewarding, too! Many new therapists start their careers this way when skill sets are just beginning to come together. This workshop will have tips, techniques and practical activities to use when providing in-home family therapy. It addresses the importance of building rapport with the parents and doing so in a humble, playful and respectful way. Jenny has created her own games and activities that she uses with families and will provide information about how to create your own games or duplicate hers for your own therapy practice. Participants will come away with many different activities to use in sessions with families. This workshop is geared toward in-home family therapists, but most of the techniques could be used in-office as well.
1. Participants will learn ways to build rapport with in-home therapy families, in particular, with parents.
2. Participants will learn techniques and activities to utilize in family therapy sessions to build rapport with adolescents who may not be so interested in participating in family therapy.
3. Participants will learn 15+ fun and creative activities/games to help family members connect and encourage playfulness.
Presenter’s Name: Jenny Decker, MA, LMFT, ADHD-CCSP
Presenter’s Bio: Jenny Decker has been passionate about In-Home Family Therapy for many years. In 2010, she started as a practicum student providing in-home family therapy to families involved in Child Protective Services and Juvenile Probation in Anoka County. She then moved onto Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) in which she was on-call 24/7 on the island of Kauai. She has tried the traditional office setting and keeps coming back to the power of in-home therapy. She left the in-office setting in 2019 to create her own In-Home Therapy Private Practice (Jenny Decker LLC). She sees clients in their homes, at nearby parks, and other community settings. She also provides parent support via telehealth as well. You can learn more about Jenny and her work at www.jennydecker.com.
